After filing a petition to change his name to “ye” in August, Kanye West was granted permission to change his name on Monday.
The multiple Grammy Award winning rapper, producer and businessman from Chicago had cited personal reasons for changing his entire name simply to “ye”.
His new moniker shares its name with the cultural icon’s eighth studio album, a word which he ironically previously stated means “you” in the Bible.
Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michelle Williams reportedly approved the petition, giving the rapper the go-ahead on dropping the “Kan” and “West” in his name.
Meanwhile, the artist who has recently released his tenth studio album, Donda, has already put the name “ye” under his Instagram account handle, @KanyeWest. He also did the same to his twitter account, changing the name to “ye”, which is spelt with all lower-case letters.
