Canadian rapper and global superstar Drake has met his match in the South Korean rapper Lisa, who has dethroned him on the American Music Charts’s number one spot.
Her solo debut “Lalisa” has left Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy”, featuring rappers Future and Young Thug, eating the dust at number two after reigning for weeks.
The 24-year-old singer was born in Thailand and moved to South Korea where she started her career as a member of the famous girl group, Blackpink.
She rose to American stardom after releasing two singles from her self-titled album, Lalisa, earlier this month. with “Money” and the hit song “Lalisa”.
She has become the first ever South Korean K-Pop artist to take number one on American music charts, according to Forbes.
In South Korea, where Lisa is based, the album made her the first female artist to sell 736,000 copies in the first week of its release.
On YouTube, the music video for “Lalisa” was watched more than 73 million times within 24 hours. This put her at number six of the top-ten list of the most watched music videos of all time on the platform, according to the publication.
Even though her solo career has got off to an astronomical start, Lisa, whose full name is Lalisa Manobal, has not announced she is leaving Blackpink.
