- Stefan Terblanche says Steve Tandy is a deep thinker like Rassie Erasmus and will take Welsh rugby forward.
- The Springboks are unbeaten but have ageing stars, while Wales’ young guns will be eager to impress in a tough Test.
Stefan Terblanche says Wales coach Steve Tandy reminds him of Rassie Erasmus, and he means it as a big compliment.
He says Tandy thinks deeply about the game and pays attention to every small detail, just like Erasmus. He says both men were always studying the sport, even when they relaxed after matches.
Tandy, 45, leads Wales after their first home win since 2023, a victory over Japan. That result comes between losses to Argentina and New Zealand.
Terblanche says Wales are improving under Tandy. He says the team will grow because Tandy is in charge.
He compares this work to Erasmus, whose Springboks are unbeaten this season after wins over Japan, France, Italy and Ireland. But he says some of the Boks’ older stars are reaching the end of long careers.
He points to Siya Kolisi, who will be 36 at the next World Cup, and Handre Pollard, who will be 33. He says their challenge is not form but the number of games they have played.
Still, he says Erasmus will handle it. He says the coach follows his own plan and that it keeps working.
Saturday’s Test in Cardiff falls outside the World Rugby window. Both coaches must make several changes to their teams.
Terblanche says South Africa’s second-string players remain strong. He says they have many caps but still need time together.
He also says this match is a big chance for young Wales players. He says they can show Tandy they are ready for Test rugby.
