- The Johannesburg Development Agency won three IMESA/CESA Excellence Awards for projects in Soweto, Orange Grove and Vlakfontein.
- The winning projects focused on community upliftment, job creation and protecting the environment across different parts of Johannesburg.
The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) has been recognised for its work in building sustainable and inclusive infrastructure across the city.
The agency received three awards at the 88th IMESA/CESA Excellence Awards held in East London on Tuesday, 28 October, during the annual IMESA Conference and Exhibition.
The JDA’s projects were honoured in categories that celebrate community upliftment, job creation and environmental sustainability.
The Naledi Clinic in Soweto took second place in the Community Upliftment and Job Creation category. The modern healthcare facility has improved access to primary healthcare while creating local jobs and promoting skills development during its construction.
The Orange Grove Rehabilitation and upgrade of the Eastern stormwater channel received third place in the Environment and Climate Change category. The project focused on reducing flooding, protecting infrastructure and restoring the environment through innovative stormwater management.
It also revived Patterson Park, adding new walkways, play areas and solar-powered lighting and charging stations.
The Vlakfontein Public Transport Facility won third place in the Community Upliftment and Job Creation category. Built through labour-intensive methods, it created opportunities for 14 local small businesses and eight community members, with over R5-million spent on small enterprises.
“These recognitions reflect the JDA’s dedication to delivering impactful infrastructure that improves lives, creates jobs and builds resilience in our communities,” said JDA CEO Themba Mathiba.
