South African comedian and actor Mpho “Popps” Modikoane is celebrating love, family and second chances.
He and his longtime partner, Latoyah Mei-Modikoane, recently held their traditional wedding. It was a colourful celebration attended by stars including Nomzamo Mbatha, Slee Ndlovu and Farieda Metsileng.
For Mpho, the moment marks a turning point. In 2021, he admitted he had serious doubts about marriage while dating Roseann Hall. He said his parents’ divorce had left him questioning whether marriage could ever truly work.
“As a child you are in this comfortable environment called a family, and when your parents suddenly separate and divorce, the world as you knew it has changed,” he told TshisaLIVE at the time.
But when he reunited with Latoyah, the mother of his daughter, his outlook changed. Determined to build a solid family unit, he focused on growth.
“Like they say, ‘Khumbul’ ekhaya’. I decided to fix myself up to be the best partner for her,” he told Sowetan.
Now, a year into their marriage, Mpho says he is grateful for the journey. “This has been the best decision of my life. I thank God for this second chance with my family. It has helped me grow as a man.”
