- The South African National Defence Force warns soldiers against posting explicit content while wearing military uniforms on social media platforms.
- Military authorities say such behaviour damages the force’s reputation and violates the Military Discipline Code.
The South African National Defence Force has laid down the law to soldiers caught posting explicit content on social media while wearing their military uniforms.
General Rudzani Maphwanya and the Military Command Council issued a warning after incidents of members sharing explicit photos and videos online while in official uniform.
The military bosses said such behaviour damages the reputation of the force and goes against everything they stand for as a disciplined institution.
“While we respect the personal freedoms of our members, the public display of explicit content in uniform is unacceptable and represents a serious breach of conduct,” General Maphwanya said.
The SANDF reminded soldiers that their actions reflect on the entire military organisation, not just themselves.
When personnel wear the uniform, they represent the values and honour of the defence force, whether they are on duty or off duty.
Military authorities made it clear that misusing the uniform in any way, whether in person or online, counts as a criminal offence under the Military Discipline Code.
The consequences for breaking these rules are serious and could include disciplinary action or even criminal charges.
