In a mesmerising new project, photographer Andrew Esiebo has paid tribute to Nigeria’s Covid-19 frontline response team for their heroics during the early stages of the pandemic.
In capturing the moments, Esiebo attempted to echo the healthcare workers’ cry for the public to play their part in containing the pandemic. This was at a time where very few were following Covid-19 protocols such as wearing masks and social distancing.
Esiebo, who had himself contracted Covid, said: “While I was able to recover at home, I saw firsthand, not just as a photographer, but as a patient the enormous challenge facing Nigeria’s health services.”
He went on to say that he took the pictures to pay homage to the workers who continue to participate in the selfless act of helping the public every day, despite facing enormous challenges.
Esiebo photographed the workers in a before-and-after theme, capturing them in their everyday clothing and then dressed in their work attire.
“I showcased them going into battle,” the photographer said.
