After the police failed to track down his stolen trailer, Dhumisani Itayi thought it was as good as gone.
Little did he know that enlisting the help of a local Sangoma would lead him to the culprits, as well as the trailer.
Dhumisani from Soweto said he woke up one morning in February to find the trailer, as well as various other items, missing from his yard.
“I realized that the trailer I was fixing the previous day was not there,” he told Scrolla.Africa.
“When I went around the yard looking for it, I found out that my yard’s wire fencing was cut open and people used that as their exit with the missing items, which included the trailer.”
He said he reported the incident to police as well as with community leaders who work with the cops.
“I was hoping that someone would come with it or at least tell me if they saw someone with my trailer.”
Efforts to find it seemed hopeless, as Dhumisani looked everywhere for it and always came up short.
He was on the verge of giving up the search when, as a last resort, he decided to consult a local Sangoma, known locally as Baba Chibuwe.
“On Friday, I went to this Sangoma, who told me to take soil from my yard where the trailer was parked, and he mixed it with muthi,” Dhumisani explained
“The sangoma told me that in a maximum of three days, I will receive good news.”
Two days later, one of Dhumisani’s friends came to him with good news. He told him that he saw the trailer at a scrap yard in Roodepoort.
It might be a coincidence, but Dhumisani believes that Baba managed what the police couldn’t, and tracked down the three thieves.
They had cut the wires of Dhumisani’s fence and pushed the trailer into some nearby bushes, perfectly hidden from view.
The men, all in their early 20s, organized a bakke that took the trailer to the scrap yard. Here, they sold it for R1,100.
Baba said that this was not the first time he had busted thugs: “I have tracking muthi that gets no hiding for the culprit of evil activities. I am just happy that Dhumisani found his trailer.”
