America’s mentally unwell former President Donald Trump has been telling people that he expects to be reinstated by August.
The news was broken by New York Times star political reporter Maggie Haberman who was a constant source of leaks from the White House during Trump’s four years at the helm of the world’s largest economy.
Political analyst Seth Abrahamson commented on Twitter that Trump is “now privately confirming his support of a summer coup of the Biden administration; if the former president has engaged in even a single act to advance this treacherous plot, he is guilty of seditious conspiracy and must be arrested immediately.”
The news comes a day after Trump’s former National Security Advisor appeared to endorse a coup in the US on the lines of Myanmar. Michael Flynn, who was pardoned by Trump for his role in a scandal involving Russian support for the Trump campaign, later backtracked on his comments.
Trump might have another motive for wanting to get back into power by August: he is facing the possibility of a criminal indictment for tax fraud and corruption by the District Attorney of Manhattan.
Trump continues to claim against all evidence that he actually won the election last year, which he lost by seven million votes – and 75% of the Republican Party believes him. The violent attack on the country’s capital last year was inspired by Trump’s big lie.
The party has sponsored hundreds of voter suppression laws around the country and has launched “audits” in states where the vote was close, such as Arizona.
Haberman wrote that Trump has been “laser focused” on the audits which he believes will vindicate him. But there is no legal route back to power for him short of a violent coup on the lines of Myanmar.
